Equality, diversity and inclusion

Equality, diversity and inclusion are central components of our People Strategy. We are committed to promoting equal rights and opportunities while proactively addressing discrimination and disadvantage in all its forms.

By fostering an inclusive and open culture, we aim to build a workforce that reflects diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. Our dedication to these principles is evident in several initiatives such as our achievement of Disability Confidence scheme Level Three Leader status and participation in the Hidden Disability Sunflower Scheme.

Such initiatives, along with our commitment to making reasonable adjustments, demonstrate our proactive approach to creating a supportive and equitable work environment.

We want to ensure that all staff are aware of and engaged with our equality, diversity, and inclusion efforts. For example, we emphasise the importance of understanding neurodiversity, using inclusive language and recognising unconscious bias.

We want to cultivate an environment where every member of staff feels valued and supported, allowing them to fully contribute to the organisation.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme

The scheme helps to encourage staff with a hidden disability to communicate this in a discrete way and to increase awareness of hidden disabilities within the organisation.

Disability Confident scheme

We are proud to be a member of the Disability Confident scheme, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible for disabled candidates. The scheme has three levels designed to support employers on their Disability Confident journey, these are: Disability Confident Committed (Level 1); Disability Confident Employer (Level 2); Disability Confident Leader (Level 3). In 2023, we’re delighted to say we achieved Disability Confident Leader status.

 In our hiring process, we:

  • Offer an interview to all disabled candidates who meet the minimum shortlisting criteria for the role they have applied for.

  • Provide feedback to disabled candidates who do not meet the minimum shortlisting criteria.

  • To be considered for a guaranteed interview, please opt into the Disability Confident scheme when completing your application through our portal.

  • We are dedicated to making reasonable adjustments to enable candidates with disabilities to participate fully in our hiring process.

If you require adjustments to our application process or need materials in an alternative format, please contact us at nhsr.hrrecruitmentandresourcing@nhs.net

Should you need adjustments during the assessment stage of our hiring process, please indicate this on your application form. We will contact you prior to your assessment to ensure these adjustments are in place.
